Vincent Van Gogh

I have always admired Van Gogh’s adventurous use of color. I, like Van Gogh, deliberately set about to use colors that capture mood and emotion. It is my intention to create movement in my art. This attribute has often been compared to Van Gogh. I take that as an amazing compliment since after all his art is my greatest inspiration.

I have always been creative but didn’t start painting until high school. I remember asking my art teacher to show me how to paint. She spent 5 minutes with me and that year I won two awards for best artist in 2 dimensional mediums. I guess you could say I was a natural. I was also asked to paint a mural of Venice for our senior prom backdrop. These experiences made me realize my passion for painting and it has been with me ever since.

I always knew I wanted to do something creative for my career but I didn’t like the whole starving artist scenario. In 2007 I received my bachelor of science in Interior design. I have used my artistic talent to create high quality hand renderings for various companies throughout San Diego and Orange County.

My painting style has evolved over the years. I used to paint so tight but I’m slowly trying to break out of that mold. In the last year I began painting on wood and this has allowed me to create more depth and texture into my work. I find such beauty in the natural wood grain. I also use a pallet knife to create more complexity and reveal the wood grain behind. It’s about applying color and strategically scraping it off. I use the wood grain as a guide so each painting takes on a life of its own. I feel like only I know when the piece is completed properly and ready to sell. All paintings are covered with an epoxy resin for a high gloss finish.
